What Countries Require ECTN for Shipments?
A complete list of African and Middle Eastern countries that mandate ECTN documentation for maritime shipments.
The Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN), also known as BESC in French-speaking countries, is a mandatory shipping document required by several African nations. It helps governments monitor maritime cargo, ensure revenue collection, and enhance security.
Countries requiring ECTN: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Djibouti, D.R. Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Chad, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Togo, and Yemen.
Application process: Contact GetCTN, submit required documents (Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading, Freight Invoice, Packing List), pay fees, and receive your validated certificate.
Important: The ECTN must be obtained before the vessel's arrival. Many countries require it at least 72 hours before departure. Failure to comply can result in cargo detention, storage charges, and significant fines.
Exemptions: Some cargo types may be exempt (e.g. humanitarian aid, diplomatic shipments). Contact us to verify.
